Indonesia: Bus fell into 20 meter deep ditch, 27 pilgrims killed and 39 injured
A terrible bus accident occurred in Indonesia. At least 27 people aboard and 39 others were injured when a bus of tourists fell into the moat in Java island here.
Local police chief Eko Prasetiyo Robbianto said the bus was taking a group of Islamic secondary school students and their parents from the city of Subang in West Java to a pilgrimage site in Tasikmalaya district of the province on Wednesday, when the accident occurred.

Robbianto said, in this sloping area in Sumedang district, the driver could not control the bus and the bus fell into a 20 m deep ditch. Robianto said that the police is trying to find out the cause of the accident. At the same time, the survivors of the accident say that the brakes of the vehicle were damaged.
The hospital was sent to 39 injured
Bandung search and rescue agency chief Deedan Ridwansah said that the dead bodies and 39 injured have been taken to a hospital and a nearby health center. He said that a person trapped in the crashed bus was taken out of the rubble on Thursday morning.
According to Ridwansah, the condition of 13 injured is critical and the bus driver is among the dead. In Indonesia, road accidents often occur due to poor safety standards and lack of infrastructure.
There have been earlier such incidents in
Sumatra Island, in December 2019, 35 people were killed when a passenger bus fell into an 80 meter deep moat. Similarly, in early 2018, 27 people were killed when a bus fell off a cliff in West Java.
